Six areas of practice.
A deliberately short list. Each area covers work we have put into production and continue to support, spanning software and the hardware it runs on, designed around the operational constraints of African markets.
Web & mobile app development.
Full-cycle product development: Android, iOS, web and the backend behind them. We take responsibility for the full scope: architecture, interface, store submission, analytics and the releases that follow launch.
We start with a working prototype rather than a document, so scope is settled on screen rather than in writing. We then build for the devices and networks your users actually have.
- Discovery, prototyping and product strategy
- Native and cross-platform mobile apps, Play Store and App Store release
- Responsive web apps, dashboards and customer portals
- APIs, integrations and cloud-first infrastructure
- Offline-first behaviour where the network can't be trusted
- Ongoing support, maintenance and iteration
Our own app, Divisi, is built on this stack — on Google Play and the App Store, and here is why we built it.
Data collection & enumeration tools.
Surveys, censuses, baselines, M&E, asset registers and beneficiary registration — captured in the field on entry-level phones without a signal, and arriving clean enough to analyse without weeks of correction.
We build custom collection tools where off-the-shelf forms are insufficient: complex skip logic, validation at the point of capture, supervisor review, and exports that go straight into your analysis pipeline.
- Offline-first mobile capture with automatic sync
- GPS, photo, audio, barcode and signature capture
- Skip logic, validation rules and duplicate detection
- Enumerator management, assignment and supervisor QA
- Live dashboards and exports to Excel, CSV, SPSS or your warehouse
- Multi-language forms for mixed-language field teams
Chatbots & automation.
Assistants on your website and inside your own tools, connected to your live systems so they can answer from your own data and complete a task, rather than returning a static FAQ response. WhatsApp sits alongside them as a delivery channel for one-time passcodes and utility notifications.
We are deliberate about where an assistant earns its place: customer support, order taking, document extraction, triage and internal search. Where a form or a business rule would serve better, we will say so.
- Web chat and in-app assistants
- WhatsApp Business for OTP and utility notification delivery
- Retrieval over your own documents, policies and catalogue
- Order taking, booking, balance checks and status lookups
- Document and invoice extraction into your ERP
- Human handover, escalation rules and audit trails
- Model evaluation before launch, monitoring after it
We run this in production ourselves: the agent tooling that curates Divisi's pest and disease library, where a wrong answer carries a direct cost to the farmer. Divisi also publishes free crop guides and a farming glossary on the product site.
Where the software meets the physical world.
A system that ends at the browser solves only part of the problem. A significant share of our work ends in a device on a counter, a meter on a wall or a terminal in a field office, and we take responsibility for that layer as well: specification, supply, installation, integration and ongoing support.
The value is in the integration. A point-of-sale terminal that does not post to the ledger, or a meter whose vending data never reaches finance, creates a second problem rather than solving the first. We deliver both sides, so reconciliation is automatic.
- Point of sale. Terminals, peripherals and the software behind them, posting straight into your ERP and stock.
- Energy metering & prepaid vending. Prepaid electricity and water metering deployments, including netVendor, with vending, reconciliation and revenue reporting.
- Device rollouts. Sourcing, configuration and deployment of field devices, tablets and printers, with fleet management.
- Integration. Hardware integrated with your accounting, billing, mobile money and customer systems rather than operating in parallel.
- Support on the ground. Installation, commissioning, training and maintenance for the physical estate.
One ledger for how the business actually runs.
Most organisations do not need more software. They need their spreadsheets and disconnected systems to stop disagreeing with one another. We implement and customise ERP — inventory, procurement, sales, manufacturing, HR and accounts — so the numbers reconcile once, at the source.
We work with established open-source ERP platforms rather than writing an accounting engine from scratch, then build the modules, integrations and reports your operation genuinely requires. This keeps both cost and implementation risk down.
- Requirements and process mapping before any configuration
- Custom modules, workflows and approval chains
- Data migration from spreadsheets and legacy systems
- Integrations: payments, banks, POS, e-commerce, payroll
- Staff training and post-go-live support
Loan management, origination to write-off.
We build and deploy loan management systems for microfinance institutions, SACCOs, credit-only lenders and in-house credit books. The whole lifecycle: application, appraisal, approval hierarchy, disbursement, repayment schedules, penalties, restructuring, arrears and provisioning.
We design first for the areas that cause the most difficulty in practice: reconciling mobile money, managing collections, and producing regulator-ready reports without a week of manual work.
- Configurable products: interest methods, fees, penalties, grace periods
- Client and group lending, KYC and document management
- Collections, arrears ageing and portfolio-at-risk reporting
- Mobile money and bank integrations, automated reconciliation
- Field officer mobile app that works offline
- Borrower self-service portal and statements
How a project runs.
Understand the operation
We work alongside the people doing the job and map what actually happens, including the undocumented workarounds.
Prototype the risky part first
The element carrying the most risk is built first, while changing direction is still inexpensive.
Ship in slices
Working software delivered on a regular cadence, so value arrives during the project rather than at the end of it.
Run it with you
Training, documentation, monitoring and support, including on systems inherited from another vendor.
Common questions
Which ERP platform does CodeFarm implement?
Can your loan management system handle mobile money reconciliation?
Do your data collection tools work without a network connection?
Do you supply hardware as well as software?
How does a CodeFarm project run?
Tell us where the difficulty is.
Send a short description of the problem. We will respond with our proposed approach and an indication of what it involves.
